An Unusual Request

A phone call out of the blue today from the pilot of the 747 that you frequently see flying circuits around Manston at the weekends.

Australian, Philip James, who will be taking it around in circles from 11:30am on Saturday has asked if any ThanetLife readers might be kind enough to take some nice photos of the aircraft as a souvenir of his visit to Manston?

If you can send any you take to me, I've promised to pass them along to him. I've also passed on to him the concern of some residents over the noise the aircraft makes and asked if there is anyway that Oasis can build a bridge with the community if the company's aircraft is going to be a regular fixture on our horizon. He's going to pass the message on to his management in Hong Kong.

So start snapping. I'll put the best up on a Flickr library if you are succesful.

I think the noise for a 747 is more than bearable..I like to see it doing circuits and bumps.

Of course if you live right over the flight path of Kent internetional then the noise is going to be considerable louder.....

but then you did buy a house on the flight path of an airport that can handle one of the biggest planes in the sky.

I will try to get some pictures Saturday.

PS When I say you ...I mean whoever is complaining not you as a person.

Here's a personal request for the pilot - fly the *!*@!@** thing back to Australia mate and practice there.

anon 7:21, we the people of Thanet no longer require uneducated people like you who are a tax burden on our system. so please go back to glasgow and claim the dole there.
thanks.

Careful, or you'll end up in 'Nayland Rock Nic'.

Or, on a slight afterthought, the new Turner whatsit looks more like a 'Nic' than a 'Nic', so why not stick them in there?

Its funny how an innocent request for pictures from a pilot can turn into a slanging session from the unintelligencia of Thanet.

It would not matter to the gentlemen in question that sending said pilot back to Australia to practice with his Jumbo jet would lose valuable income to Manston and Thanet as a whole...because he most likely gets his income from the state.

We need Kent international to be used as much as possible within certain constraints I.E time scheduals, Night flying ect.

watching this 'plane as i type.

I live at the 'Rural' end of the runway and according to the rules 75% of take offs and landings have to happen here. As a result we 'suffer' most from these events, and I have to say that I find them less intrusive than the 'small' aircraft that 'pop' and fa#t above us on a sunny sunday.

(Ps under the 'Code of Conduct' when this matter is discussed at Council I have to absent myself)

He returned the favour by just doing a low flyover of our house in Deal !

You seriously want me to take a photo of a plane that flies round every ten minutes dropping shit on our children?

You seriously believe that it's worth a few bob?

You seriously believe that it doesn't have a negative impact on our tourist industry?

And no, I don't claim off the state or anyone else. I work hard to make this a better place to live and short sighted money grabbing schemes like this make me angry. And so do you.

So there.

Not quite the quality of those from doverpast.co.uk but some shots of the plane over our house.

Well matey, have you ever flown? Have you flown from Gatwick? I used to live near there. Did you mind '...dropping shit on my children'? I doubt it.

So there

p/s Hope the pilot gets some good photos, though with this weather I'm not so sure. You're welcome here anytime mate.

Are you serious...no tell me you are not?

Ok so you dont fly ..you have never been on holiday by plane?... thats fine...you have never driven a car or a motorcycle? ok thats fine..you never ride on a Stagecoach deisel choking bus? thats fine..you walk or ride a pushbike everywhere? thats fine.

But some of us live in the 21st century...we have no choice our work and lives dictate it.

I dont think you should be worried about that Jumbo jet dropping shit as you call it on your children, there are alot more dangers much closer to home.

Any way you have got to understand .that it was the tone of your first post that prompted people to reply the way they did... not your views.

it is very hard to have rational debate with people who just F and blind there feelings.

you will always be treated that way because nobody here knows you as a person so they respond to you as you write.

I must go now that damn plane is coming over again and I left some washing on the line.

If it is the same poor Aussie having to go round in circles all the time, I am beginning to feel some sympathy for the guy but I do have more sympathy for those having to put up with the noise and the pollution. Happy to see passengers and freight landing and taking off at the same rate; that would indicate a thriving air-port with JOBS available. I am fed up of apologists suggesting pilot training brings big benefit to the Isle; HOW?

People, I'm just back home after possibly more hours flying about Kent and Sussex today than the 747 pilot. I've been watching the comments via my Blackberry, while I have been flying. Autopilots are a wonderful invention!

Please mind the language! What makes this weblog very different to many others in Thanet is courtesy. Use an ****! if you wish to use an expletive, after all, it's open to interpretation and possibly more effective that a four letter word to make your point in the first place!

The OASIS 747 pilot just sent me a text message, it says:

"Simon, "Just at Gatwick on my way back to Hong Kong. The photos are great. I will get back and post some photos I took out of the window! Many thanks to everyone once again" - Philip.

'Happy to see passengers and freight landing and taking off at the same rate'

Oh sorry..I thought you were worried about the shit falling on the children.

Your arguments are all over the place.

I am not an apoligist..... I did not say big benifits just some benifits.

Simon...I am glad he likes the pictures...I look forward to seeing he's from the cockpit.

I think 3:33 PM has the Jumbo mixed up with Seagulls! They drop s*** everywhere, including on to kids.

The Jumbo looks so graceful interloping our skies, like a wild bird from a distant land.

Chris, I do not use what I regard as poor language on Thanetlife and perhaps you think my 5.00pm post is a follow up to a previous one; it is not. My point is fairly obvious; if noise and emissions are the price we have to pay for a thriving Manston airport that creates a great deal of new employment in Thanet, then it is a price I am happy to pay. Aircraft going round in circles doing repeated landings and take-offs on a week-end creating noise and pollution for little benefit to our community needs to curtailed. Yesterday we not only had the Oasis 747 but a private jet doing a wider circular pattern for circuits and bumps.

I agree. It is very disturbing especially for people who look forward to a peaceful weekend at home after working all week. I moved down here from West London to get away from this sort of disturbance. I was born within 3 miles of Heathrow at a time when it was a lttle airfield surrounded by fields. A bit like Manston actually. I'm afraid arguments about financial advantages for the area don't wash with me.

Anonymous said...

I just want to know if all the critics of the aircraft noise have moved into the area since RAF Manston, USA Manston and similar? Everyone knows it is an airport and therefore has planes!

A YouTube article on the owners of Oasis - in case you wanna complain! :)

Personally, being ex-RAF and an aviation fanatic, I love having the jumbo around and glad that Manston is still active for something.

Sorry post of 7.27pm..I thought you were the original poster who used the profanities about the Aussie pilot going home and taking his Jumbo with him.

It is very difficult to know who is who if you just go 'anonymous' if you use a name even if its not your own..it helps to identify one post from another.

Thats all right, Chris, no offence taken.

Hasn't anyone ever taught the guy to fly in straight lines - preferably straight across the channel and out of our lives

How wonderful to see the neanderthals at play. Anyone who thinks a 747 going round and round the island all day must be a benefits scrounger from Glasgow eh? Vintage Thanet Life!

In todays modern age the aircraft is a familiar noise and sight in our skies. It seems to me that whenever change for success is going to happen in Thanet, the same negative people want to oppose such adventures. E.U. Jet, Westwood Cross, and the plans for more homes come to mind. Times change so do our needs.. Move On!! deal with it..

Once again the people of Thanet are living in the past. A thriving airport might have been just the ticket in the 1970s or 80s, but the writing's on the wall for air travel. Why not try living in the 21st century and turn Manston into a centre of excellence for renewables? Or is that too forward thinking for our clod-hopping council?

DrMoores said...

It's not really worth a "Clod-hopping" council accusation. It's very simple. Lose the airport and have a new town built in its place. What would you rather have?

Airport or 3,000 more houses...!!?? Let me think??? Airport I suspect!
