The Bell Tolls Margate FC? - Newsflash

It's reported this evening that Margate football club has confirmed HM Revenue & Customs is calling for the club to be liquidated over missed payments.

A statement issued by the club on Wednesday evening said: “We can now confirm that the petition requested by HM Revenue and Customs for the winding up of Margate Football Club Limited is in relation to late payment of PAYE contributions.

“Despite all amounts due being paid in full, the Revenue wish for the club to be liquidated as payment was not received on time.

“All monthly payments due under the CVA have been made in full and as per the agreement.

“Our development partner has been informed of the above and intends to instruct lawyers to defend our position. He remains fully on board with the club.

“Our chairman met with officers and members of Thanet District Council this morning to keep them abreast of the situation.

“The club have also contacted the Ryman League to explain the position and they have offered their support and assistance, they have also offered to contact the FA on our behalf.”

Two club directors will attend the AGM of the Margate independent supporters club on Thursday evening to address fans’ concerns.

What a nasty world we live in:

“Despite all amounts due being paid in full, the Revenue wish for the club to be liquidated as payment was not received on time."

Who do the Revenue think they are? Oppressors of the people or servants of the people?

Why has the club compromised itself?

From your other news entry
'Margate Football Club Ltd had not complied with a voluntary arrangement entered into on November 29, 2005, under the Insolvency Act.'
Yes 10:41 its a nasty world but not complying with the VA is asking for trouble.

You are sadly correct, but the assumption 'asking for trouble' is now blithely accepted by us all as the way the modern state behaves towards its citizens. Woad graffitti on the side of a saxon hut showing a crude comment about The Sheriff of Nottingham might have attracted the same comment 'asking for trouble', but times have changed, haven't they?

What a shame margate football forget or get one cheque lost and now a winding up order... havnt the directors or admin staff heard of a direct debit???

It could only happen down there.

It wasn't THAT long ago that Margate FC made it to The Conference and since then, poor management, poor leadership, poor decisions, one after another, have led this long established club to the abyss.

I used to watch Margate as a kid in the early 70s. It is very upsetting.

What is happening down there - Dreamland gone to the dogs, Cliftonville now a relic of its former self, Sally Line gone - and now Margate Fc too? I don't come "home" very often - but when I do, I feel sad - the area is dying on its arse.

The people running the area have to take a good hard look at themselves.

Margate FC RIP - and thanks for the good times.

I hope HMRC will show some leniency here and give the Club a final stern warning. Calling in the Receivers would be a little extreme a reaction since the club is paying in full.

However as anon 6:34 rightly says, not complying with the CVA is playing a very risky game indeed.
