Virginia's Westgate Connection

The daughter of Cllr Ingrid Spencer, a former student of the Ursuline College in Westgate, was on the Virginia Tech University campus this week when 32 people were murdered by a crazed gumen, Choe Seung-Hui.

Elinor Spencer, a research chemist was in the science and engineering department when America's worst firearms outrage took place.

I am sure that everyone here in Thanet, will join with me in wishing Elinor our best wishes following her ordeal.

Yes of course! However, am I alone in thinking that the British TV Media seem to have treated this sad occurence as happening here? It's 'foreign' news and 32 lives lost under such circumstances is always a tragedy but does it warrant over half of nightly news-bulletins? In Iraq, where many of our servicemen and women are in 'harms way', 200 innocent civilians are blown away by terrorists in a few hours and the British media almost makes passing reference only about it. I just wish we could have a greater emphasis on 'Home' orientated news!

It's not just this story the press get in the wrong order last sunday two helicopters crash in Iraq but the tv, radio, and papers were more interested in Prince William splitting up with his girlfriend (Not even his wife). I also send my thoughts to Elinor what a terrible experience that must of been to go through.
