I have been asked to pass on that this weekends two wheel rally in Westgate, is a motor scooter celebration with around 200 people expected and to allay any concerns from Westbrook residents, these are being accomodated at King Ethelberts school in Westgate.

Hair-driers on wheels! Chances are that they will be driven more sedately than a young local group of 3 who convoy noisily about Palm Bay!

A little tip in dating local photographs , there are three postwar landmarks in this photograph that help with dating . First, there is the old 1828 lighthouse on the stone pier destroyed in the Feb 1953 storm along with the westbrook pavillion. Then the cafe on Margate Pier burnt down in 1963 and then Holy Trinty Church demolished in 1959 due to being bombed in 1943. As the old lighthouse is intact the photo is post war and pre 1953.

Now I'm confused as I just saw a polic car on the promenade heading that way and a vintage motorcycle rumbling down the Royal Esplanade!
