Nazanin Update

Following an earlier story and Web appeal, I thought you might like to know that the young Iranian girl Nazanin Fatehi who needed "Blood money" funds to escape prison, has been released.

Nazanin was in January 2006 "sentenced to death for murder by court in Iran after she stabbed one of three men who attempted to rape her and her 16-year-old niece in a park in Karaj (a suburb of Tehran) in March 2005".

A retrial spared her the rope, but she remained in prison until supporters could raise 400m Rials (approx $43,000) bail.

Well, thanks to an extensive web and press campaign, the Help Nazanin site collected "$31,000 USD in online donations, $1,000 in cheques and $1,000 in Iran". Member of Canadian Parliament Belinda Stronach generously covered the rest of the amount, and Fatehi is now back with her family.

Thank you to all those who donated.

What has this got to do with Thanet.

WE DONT WANT TO KNOW!

Nothing whatsoever to do with Thanet but as previously mentioned, a human interest story, where thousands of people made a contribution against an injustice which almost had a young girl hanged for defending herself against a rapist in Iran. On a personal note, I thought making a small donation to get the child out of jail was a decent gesture for anyone who might have been touched by the injustice in this story whether she was from Thanet or Tehran.

anon again!
The two comments above, (we don't want to know & hurrah hurrah hurrah)are rather disturbing, and can only be written by the 'Chav' art parent of 'couldn't care less' attitude of lame brains who walk loose the streets of Thanet!
Obviously Latchford supporters!
If I could transplant these morons, it would be immediately to the Centre of Tehran, surrounded by a mob of rapists! (just so they get the other end of your message doc!)

Compassion rates little it seems in some. What a shame that they are so blinkered.

Good news, Doc, despite the shouting from 6.34pm!

A disturbing story with a warming outcome. Surely this should interest anyone , even if they don't happen to be the sharpest pencil in the box.

re: 7.42pm anon. My Hurrah, Hurrah, Hurrah, great stuff comment referred to the fact Nazanin had been released. Not referring to her rape. It was directed against the We do not wish to know comment. Of course we want to know general news and are not so self obsessed in Thanet not to care about others. Thank God the girl has been freed. well done everyone.
