Best Avoided

I drove over to Westwood Cross to buy some bits and pieces from Comet and Staples today and frustrated by the lunchtime traffic on an ordinary weekday, I have to say that plans to build one thousand more homes around Westwood strike me as absolutely insane.

Not that I’m alone in this opinion but will anyone who thinks it’s a good idea please tell us why it is and how the traffic problem will be solved. It’s going to be a congestion disaster for Thanet and common sense tells me that nothing less than teleportation is going to make travelling from Birchington to Ramsgate any easier than the notorious Wandsworth one-way system over the next ten years.

I try to use all the rat run back roads these days.
Came back from Canterbury yesterday and instead of heading for St Nicholas at Sarre village centre I went right, and then left along Seamark Road to Acol, and then along the back road past Westgate and Garlinge turnoffs along Shottendane Rd to Westbrook. Didn't hit a main road AND avoided all the cameras from the start of Birchington and along Canterbury Rd to Westbrook (4 of them?)
Can't be pleasant for the villagers and people who lived in once quiet roads but what can you do?

This is an everyday occurrence, but the TDC were knowledgeable of this factor BEFORE Westwood Cross was built, but never-the-less decided NOT to do anything about it, but WAIT to see what happens!
They now know the roads are the week factor, along with sufficient Parking.
TDC, it IS NOW time to do something!
UNDERSTOOD?

Oh dear, TDC to do something NOW???

In the course of my profession I occasionally have to contact Mr Scarfe at Environmental Health Dept of TDC - he is the officer who arranges removal of bodies and funerals for people who die without relatives or money.
I have been trying to contact him all this week and have now been told that he is off sick and a Mr Wells is covering for him.
Unfortunately Mr Wells has an answerphone message on his phone saying he is on leave and won't be back until some time in August.
I asked who else could deal with the case - it seems NO-ONE!
Now how long does a body last without becoming a serious problem in this heat?
I read on here how TDC don't have a dog warden at weekends, this seems to be another instance of their don't care attitude.
We won't get anywhere in Thanet until we can change the TDC culture which seems to accept an institutional denial of service to the public.

I travel to Canterbury and back daily and it takes as long to get from St Peters to Manston as it does the remainer of the journey to Canterbury City Centre.

The traffic getting in and out of Canterbury is not as bad as Westwood Cross and that is saying something.

Getting down college road and through victoria lights has been a pain for a long time now - I realised that westwood x would make it worse and now that I have moved from margate I have to say I am pleased to see the back of those journeys. Wakey wakey TDC - here is another chance for you to do something sensible for a change to help ease the suffering of the council taxed masses.

Cllr Martin Wise seems to think it's a good idea and as for the traffic, let me refresh your (and his) memory on that:

"I have driven back and forth to work through the Westwood Cross area for the past 17 years. Apart from during road works, which will bring improvements, I have not had any increase to my journey time. Traffic congestion at any time in Thanet is no worse than anywhere else I have visited of comparable size, and is better than most.
Travel to Canterbury, Maidstone, Ashford, Bluewater, etc. to prove the point."

Posted here by Cllr Wise in March.

I too could drive through there without being delayed by anything or anybody, IF I drove like Councillor Wise with eyes firmly closed in oblivion!

Same again Sunday @ 1-sh.... jams in every direction round the roundabout, being caused mainly by the slow moving entrance to the WC carpark. Haine Road is the most stupidious section. Far too narrow!
Whereby, a quick shifting of that old Barn (probably protected), would leave space to make the road much wider and safer all the way to Lord of the Manor roundabout.
There are so many possibilities, but, the TDC arrogantly ignore all
complaints. Makes you wonder exactly what the TDC is planning out West!
Anybody know?
