Listen In

In tacit recognition of the growing reach of ThanetLife, Council Leader, Sandy Ezekiel, has kindly agreed to take reader’s questions in a regular leader’s audio interview, which will start this coming week.

I’m delighted that Councillor Ezekiel is sparing the time from a busy schedule to work with me in improving the dialogue between our elected representatives and the people of Thanet. This won’t be Paxman on NewsNight but in the five minutes or so of each recording, I would like to be able to put your questions to him on a range of local issues that concern us all, so please start the ball rolling by adding them to the comments section for this entry. I’ll take a selection of the best for each interview.

Perhaps you would be kind enough to ask him this question, several weeks ago he apparently announced the acquisition of the Marks and Spencer's building in Cecil Square this was at the Turner contemporary meeting since then I have seen no further comment on this matter although I have tried to get an answer from Thanet council directly, up until this point they have been unable to reply. So can councillor Ezekiel confirm the purchase, how much money, and what do they intend to do with it?

What is happening with the Dreamland letters?

I'd also like to ask him why he never replied to my letter with regards to an idea I had about putting a full scale King Kong on top of Invicta flats... I even drew out the plans for him

The "Vice Chairman of The Conservative Technology Forum" who is also the "director of the centre-right open market think tank Aediles" gets to choose the questions that are going to be put to a "Conservative party District Councillor". Can anyone else see how this may be flawed ;)

How about an independent observer?

you're just putting the name of two random newspapers together to sound clever...

how about a sun express or a star record...

I dont see any reason why Simon cant choose. Bearing in mind that hes going to be recording it, if hes not been impartial then you'll know. Not that I think he will be biased in his questioning to make it easier for Cllr Ezekiel. Remember hes questioned Conservative representatives before with Richard Samuel and Cllr Chris Wells without showing bias.

I always thought our Sandy had a face for radio, here's the proof!

After all I've written, said and done over the last two years do you really believe that I'm going to allow a party political regardless of my affiliation to the leadership of any political party? What I do at Westminster is very different to what I try and do and say for the people of Thanet which is why I asked you to suggest questions of your own to help maintain an independent perspective.

Could you consider asking him why, contrary to our Plan Inspector's Report, they have weakened TDCs position in respect of developing the Dreamland site as a major tourist development and in one fell swoop have added millions to its worth as a development site to the benefit of Waterbridge.
By allowing other types of development is he not concerned that he has already set up a 'self-fulfilling prophecy' in that an amusement park will deliberately be proved non-viable as appears to be the case as we approach the May Bank Holiday? In anticipation of his answer "Wot about the big wheel", you might ask him what else is on the site?
Others have raised the issue of compulsory purchase; is this not possible or have they as a result of relaxing the development requirements made it now too expensive to do so?
Its not so much a question as an issue, sorry.

What a nice idea, Dr Moores. You could ask Cllr Ezekiel if TDC is committed to sustainability and environmental policies and preserving our dwindling agricultural land and open vistas on Thanet and what policies they have to preserve them for following generations?

I am sure you can anticipate the answer to this one and whilst he will be unable to comment on individual cases you might like to ask him why, when there is a conflict of important and vital 'green policies' with planning applications to cover the open countryside with carvans for 'tourism' reasons his own Planning Department does not automatically refer such applications to the Planning Committee with a reccomendation for the matter to be decided by the full council meeting?

One thing I am quite interested in is the expected Leadership election soon. What does he think of his chances and if he wins what would his aims be for the next year?

Also what are his views on the use of the Internet in consulting local residents on their views regarding issues important to them?

"Dr" Cynic why don't you set up a website to ask your own questions if you don't think much of DrM. I'm sure the people of Thanet will flood to it.

Please ask Mr. E. why our council doesn't communicate. Has it a medium long term plan for Thanet? What is that plan? Has he any thoughts on joint venture partnerships between council and venture capital partners?

Please ask Mr E why is it that TDC fails to improve our towns for its own people to enjoy and live in whilst going out of its way to encourage big business and developers to make a mint while local people suffer. If the towns are nice for us people from outside will soon find out and will visit.

I would be interested in knowing how TDC are learning from, and seeking to emulate, our neighbours at Canterbury City Council who have been independently awarded an "Excellent" rating from the Audit Commission compared to TDC's "Weak" judgement.

It seems to me that TDC are doing nothing but Mr E may know more...

why is it that the TDC dont listern to the people of thanet on what we want for the town we all got to live here like dreamland dreamland is the back bone of margate you ask anyone thay tell you that i work in london thay all say margate needs dreamland to bring people to the area the some art centre is not going to do this.
Is the TDC main goal to make thanet in to one big shopping centre or more houses what has this leadership done for thanet that make it a better place to live and come to vist well i cant see much? my last question is how come Herne bay, deal place like that seafront look lovely and you come back to margate and you can see the TDC have no care what are seafront look like it all run down the shop closed every where which look bad to
