Ask Mr Kipling

Before we send anymore British troops into an increasingly futile and highly risky conflict in Afghanistan, I rather think that our political leaders should be forced to watch the video clip below, in popular circulation both here and abroad, which illustrates rather well, the nature of the forces ranged against us in the region and their enthusiasm for the fight, in Afghanistan, Iraq and anywhere else come to that!

"Everyone here (Afghanistan) is convinced about jihad and to sacrifice his life, Once they sign in with us (Taleban), they do not need any special kind of indoctrination. They simply are to be clad with a jacket laden with dynamite sticks and to blow themselves up next to the target."

Rudyard Kipling knew all about Afghanistan and it hasn't changed that much a century later it seems.

For a new PC user the video screen is a great idea; the problem is I cant get it to run Dr Moores.

I suspect you have a clip of some of the hardest soldiers in the world who have historically seen off all comers in time.

Many of my ex-service colleagues are aghast at the nonsense our Govt is at in sending a light-weight unsupported Bde Group to Afghanistan. If one of the declared aims was really to eradicate opium poppy cultivation by force, then all the 'hearts & minds' ideas can go to pot! When will Western Governments realise that the drugs industry is like any other business and that they would be better advised to join in in the marketplace and send a DEFRA team out with dollars packed in briefcases to buy up the opium crop.
No soldiers put in harms way and a darn sight cheaper. The result would be happy Pathans welcoming the man from Defra with cries of 'He says ,YES'.

You'll need at least a 1mb broadband connection.. preferably faster with your PC's Internet Explorer settings allowing you to accept a video stream. I gues there's something not switched on at your end but I'm helplessto help.. forgive the pun. I can see it OK. It's basically a popular recruiting video by Al Qaeda

Got it, thanks. Iraqi insurgent successes! I thought the Govt views these clips as glorifying terrorism? The Afghans are a harder bunch than these guys in Iraq who are townies really. I have serious concerns for the safety of our troops in Afghanistan.

What did Rudyard Kipling say about Afghanistan? What were his views?

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier.

One sword Knot stolen from the camp
Will pay for all the school expenses,
Of any Kurrum Valley scamp
Who knows no word or mood or tenses
But, being blessed with perfect sight,
Picks off our messmates left and right

If this is supposed to be an Al Qaeda recruitment film, why has it got dreadful American music all through it? It looks to me like some misguided CIA dork has put this together, hoping it will have the inflamatory effect that it certainly appears to have had here.

The video has different sound tracks dubbed on to it in different regions. The rap version is popular among disaffected young men in English-speaking countries who can identify more easily with the content.

These videos and many a lot worse than this are peppered all over the internet..There are hundreds of them many with islamic music on them glorifying the cause.

I have seen so many convoys blown up and soldiers shot I have lost count and must admit have become a bit de-sensetised to them.

If these videos were shown on the BBC news then I am sure public opinion would soon change and there would be more calls to get our troops out of those hell holes.

The music on this one is POD with the song "Boom". POD are incidentally a US Christian rock group...

Afghanistan isnt safe and as I understand it the warlords are back and opium production is higher than ever before. Osama Bin Laden is still free. So what exactly are we acheiving in Afghanistan? More troops are on the way. I have such respect for every soldier, going into a warzone like that risking their lives for their country. Every soldier that goes there is a national hero.

Chris, we are only shown what our Lords and masters want us to be shown! I heartily agree with you and its striking a cord with N Ireland for me of 30 years ago!
'Yesterday another soldier.....' and then deaths didn't even make the news unless a multiple casualty incident happened.
I'm beginning to understand why the Americans have 6,000+ brain injured soldiers; ghastly stuff.
What is really sad is that the world thinks that blowing a humvee up and killing and maiming its crew is acceptable but giving rioters a beating before releasing them is major news and utterly reprehensible! Strange values we have...

There are some quite remarkable videos available showing interesting prespectives, the best place I've found for finding them "all in one place" is google video, try these links...
